UV Filters
A UV filter is used to reduce UV rays from entering the lens and striking the film. Modern lenses often have UV protection built into them as well as digital sensors, however, UV filters are commonly used to help protect the surface of the lens from scratches, smudges, dirt and other hazards.
Circular Polarizing Filters
A polarizer is different than most filters in that it is composed of two pieces of glass, mounted independently inside a round frame so that one can be rotated relative to the other. Because I do a lot of indoor shooting and since almost all public building rely on fluorescent lighting, the FLD filter has received the most use. Simply stated, "It works." Before purchasing these filters I had not realized the dramatic impact they would have on the satisfaction I receive from my photos. They are an incredible buy, too. I could not believe the prices charged by other vendors for similar sets; up to four times the cost. Surely, one would be hard-pressed to discern four times the quality between those others and these. The stiff pouch is a really nice touch, too.BTW, I use these filters on a Nikon D40 sporting a Tamron 18-270mm 72MM lens (obviously not the kit lens). Neewer is exactly correct to point out that these lens filters will work on "ANY Other 72mm Lens!"

I've always wanted to name a review that. Anyway, these filters do a lot for their money. I especially appreciate the UV/Sunflare (black) filter. It helped retain sky detail when shooting portraits at sunset on my D600.
