The DGK Color Tools XL Size Digital Grey Kard Model DGK-XL is an accurate, waterproof and durable white balance card / 18% gray card for film and digital photography. Our new XL size card makes it super easy to fill the viewfinder for white balance shots. The DGK-XL consists of three XL-size color reference cards, both sides matte finish and spectrally neutral. The cards are easy to carry in your pocket or in your bag, plus they are 100% waterproof and durable enough to take anywhere. Each card measures 4" x 5" or approximately 102 by 127 millimeters. The cards are supplied with easy to follow instructions and a premium adjustable carrying strap with detachable clip and safety release.

grey card seems to be brighter than true XRite 18% grey

These cards are brighter than the 18% I expected, yielding an RGB value of 160, 160, 160 instead of the 128, 128, 128 I expected to see. So I'm not sure if there is not enough standardization of the term "18% grey" but these cards when checked against an XRite chart were at least 1 step brighter than the XRite's version of 18% grey.The white and black were fine, and otherwise these cards are really good to use. A little shiny for the black card, but overall a good set. I just needed to hit the 18% I expected and not the brighter version of 18% I see with some of these cards.

Need White Balance?

These cards allow the photographer to quickly set the white balance on their digital camera with ease. Just point and shoot. They really help when confronted with lighting temperatures that vary greatly.

If you're a white balance nut, as I am, it is useful to simply hold these cards up in front of your subject for a reference shot where you don't necessarily have time or opportunity for a custom white balance. Using Photoshop for post-processing, the correction is simple.Generally, I much prefer custom white balancing but this is a handy, old-school product and it ought to be in your bag.
